Hey peeps, how ya doin’? It’s been a while since I last hit your inbox. Maybe five or six months? As a content creator, that’s shameful.
I stopped writing this newsletter because I wasn’t sure there was much to say. Yeah, I love jumping rope and I wanted to share the benefits of it, but I found that to be pretty limiting.
A few of you did ask me to post videos of myself jumping with lessons. And while I appreciate the ask, it’s a hard no for me. So I kinda stepped back from this and put it on the shelf.
But then, something happened.
I hurt myself.
There was no one point of injury; my left leg just began to hurt after I jumped rope. No pain while I jumped, mind you. Just after.
But rather than listen to my body and take a break, I kept jumping.
And the pain intensified.
It traveled down the back of my leg, concentrating behind my knee. It hurt to bend my leg and it hurt to straighten it. It interrupted my sleep and made me a bit cranky.
I had a similar pain in my right leg about 18 months ago and went to physical therapy for it, so I began doing some of those same PT exercises.
They didn’t really help.
I also went to acupuncture for some relief, but it was hard to find.
The only time I noticed the pain lessening a bit was on days I didn’t work out, so finally, I stopped jumping rope.
It’s been two weeks since I’ve done a jump rope workout (minus one day last week that was a mistake. My leg REALLY hurt after that).
But despite some lingering pain, it is feeling better (most days).
As Ross Said, Pivot! Pivot!
Just because I stopped jumping rope doesn’t mean I stopped exercising. I downloaded the BetterMe app and began exploring different workouts to do at home while I wait for my leg to heal. (Actually, I feel like I got hoodwinked into downloading it, but that’s a topic for another time).
Do I love it? No. Will it do? Absolutely.
So that’s where I’m at.
Up until now, I’ve been incredibly lucky. I’ve never been taken out of an activity I love due to some kind of injury. But here we are.
So I thought instead of writing about jumping rope, I’d write about being a middle-aged woman who’s dealing with an injury and all that entails.
I’d include things like
What I’m doing to get better
Alternative workouts
How I’m feeling mentally
The trials and tribulations of getting older
And more
So, we’ll see where it goes, but in the very least, I wanted to provide you with an update.
If you have any thoughts or questions, I’d love to hear them.
Thanks, and stay tuned!
